Our History

2005

Foundation

World Marina & Route Guide was founded by Captain Michael Harrison and marine engineer Sarah Chen in Melbourne, Australia. Starting with a simple database of Victorian marinas, the company was born from a desire to centralize fragmented marine navigation information.

2008

National Expansion

After three years of steady growth, we expanded our coverage to include all Australian states and territories. Our database now included over 500 marinas and anchorages, making us the most comprehensive resource of its kind in Australia.

2012

Digital Revolution

We launched our first comprehensive digital platform, moving beyond traditional printed guides to provide real-time updates, weather integration, and interactive route planning tools. This marked our transformation into a technology-driven marine navigation service.

2015

Weather Integration

Partnering with the Australian Bureau of Meteorology, we integrated real-time weather data and forecasting into our route planning services, significantly enhancing safety and planning capabilities for our users.

2018

Safety Initiative

We launched our comprehensive safety resource center, providing detailed guides on emergency procedures, equipment requirements, and navigation best practices specifically tailored for Australian waters and conditions.

2021

Community Focus

Recognizing the importance of community knowledge, we implemented user-generated content features, allowing experienced mariners to share local knowledge, updates, and tips with the broader boating community.
